A defiant Ed Miliband has vowed to "fight and win this election", amid rumours of discontent over his leadership of Labour.

It came after two of the most senior members of his shadow cabinet strenuously denied making a secret pact in the event of their leader stepping down.

Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper and shadow health secretary Andy Burnham were reported by The Times newspaper to have struck a "non-aggression pact".

Mr Miliband wrote on Facebook that he would be spending the next six months before the election fighting "street by street, house by house, taking our case to the people on every issue".

Sky News has been told the post was planned in advance and not issued in response to the reports over Mr Miliband's leadership.

Arrests Over 'Islamist Plot To Attack UK'

Four men have been arrested by police investigating an alleged Islamic extremist plot to carry out an attack in the UK, according to Sky sources.

A 27-year-old man was detained at gunpoint in a car in the street in Southall, west London.

Two other suspects, aged 22 and 25, were arrested at addresses in Hounslow and Uxbridge, also in the west of the capital.

The fourth man, 19, was detained at an address in High Wycombe.

Armed police also took part in the raids at the addresses in Hounslow and High Wycombe but no shots were fired.

The arrests took place on Thursday evening and in the early hours of Friday.

Counter-terrorism officers were leading searches of various properties, including a terraced house on Desborough Avenue in High Wycombe, Sky's Tom Parmenter reported from the scene.

Local shopkeeper Sutha Tangaraj works opposite the house and told Sky News he saw the armed police arrive.

"At about 7pm or 7:30pm at least half a dozen armed police surrounded the house, they knocked the door and no one answered.

"A lady in the house eventually opened the door and they went and have since been searching ever since."

He said police were at the same address six months ago.

Mr Tangaraj said the man who lives at the property "is a regular customer and lives in the house with his family - his mother is very chatty".

The four men were all taken to police stations in central London.

Scotland Yard said the arrests and subsequent searches were part of an "ongoing investigation into Islamist-related terrorism".

Sky's home affairs editor Mark White said: "Scotland Yard are officially giving very little in the way of information on these arrests, but sources are suggesting it is linked to an alleged extremist plot against the UK."

Jail For Conman Who Claimed He Was In Coma

A man who allegedly pretended to be a comatose quadraplegic to escape justice after tricking a neighbour out of £40,000 has been jailed for four and a half years.

Alan Knight was spotted on shopping trips and holidays as he avoided court for two years after claiming he had suffered a serious neck injury.

The 47-year-old from Swansea claimed he was caring for next door neighbour Ivor Richards as he "drained" the dementia sufferer's bank accounts and spent the money on a caravan and holidays.

He also forged the will of Mr Richards - using the names of two dead women he found in a newspaper obituary column as counter-signatories - as his elderly neighbour was in a care home.

As police tried to bring him to court for the fraud he claimed his neck injury had "worsened" and admitted himself to hospital.

Doctors witnessed him eating, wiping his face and writing, despite the claims he was too ill to stand trial.

When he finally appeared at court, Knight arrived in a wheelchair and neck brace.

He admitted 19 counts of forgery, fraud and theft and was remanded in custody. The claims he deliberately used his alleged injury to avoid court will be the subject of a separate investigation.

Knight had been planning to plead not guilty but changed his mind after it was revealed he had been caught on CCTV walking around while out shopping.

In passing sentence, Judge Thomas said: "Alan Knight is as dishonest a man as I have ever come across.

"When these matters came to light he decided to do everything he could to avoid responsibility for his actions.

"He tried to blame his own son for what he had done - which resulted in him being arrested - and accused his own son of being bribed by a police officer.

"It is clear that Alan Knight would stop at nothing in order to try and save his own skin."

Dark Web Swoop Shuts Down 400 Websites

Britain's National Crime Agency has arrested six people as part of a major crackdown on the hidden "dark web".

Those held include the suspected administrators of the online drug market place Silk Road 2.0 - which sprung up after the original was shut down - as well as illegal drug vendors on the dark web.

The European Cybercrime Centre - using intelligence developed by US counterparts - also took down the technical infrastructure that is key to the hosting of the illegal market places.

As a result, more than 400 dark websites disappeared from the web.

The dark web consists of websites and content which is not indexed by standard searched engines, but can be accessed with relative ease using special software.

The NCA's deputy director Roy McComb said more arrests were expected, and warned that the dark web was "like any other organised crime network".

"It may take time and effort to investigate and build a criminal case, but we are determined to identify and prosecute people caught dealing drugs and committing serious crime using the dark web," he said.

The six people arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs were a 20-year-old man from Liverpool, a 19-year-old man from New Waltham, Lincolnshire, a 30-year-old man from Cleethorpes, a 29-year-old man from Aberdovey, Wales, a 58-year-old man from Aberdovey, Wales, and a 58-year-old woman from Aberdovey, Wales.

All six have been interviewed and bailed pending further enquiries.

A "large amount" of computer equipment was seized at all the addresses searched and will be forensically examined.

Philadelphia Abduction Suspect Wanted For Rape

By Sky News US Team

The man accused of grabbing a Philadelphia woman off the street has a history of violence and faces attempted murder and rape charges for a separate incident.

Delvin Barnes was arrested in a car park on Wednesday in Jessup, Maryland.

Days earlier he had kidnapped Carlesha Freeland-Gaither, dragging her to his car, in a dramatic act caught on surveillance video.

Ms Freeland-Gaither, 22, was found alive, with minor injuries. Investigators praised her spirit and strength for surviving the ordeal.

Video: Woman's Abduction Caught On CCTV

Barnes, 37, has confessed and told authorities he did not know the victim, according to court documents filed on Thursday night.

He has a conviction for choking his ex-wife a decade ago. And he is accused of abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl in Virginia just last month, prosecutors said.

The teenager managed to escape as Barnes was digging a hole, which authorities think was her intended grave.

The girl in that case went missing in Richmond, Virginia, on 1 October and was found at a local business two days later, naked, bleeding, severely burned and smelling of bleach and gasoline, the Charles City County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Officials said the girl was hit in the head with a shovel and stuffed into the trunk of a car. They accused Barnes of kidnapping her with intent to kill.

Investigators say they have DNA evidence that links Barnes to the crime. Police had issued an arrest warrant for him on 28 October.

Arriving in Virginia to face the charges, he told a group of reporters to "take your stuff and go home" and muttered obscenities.

Barnes was released a year ago after serving eight years in prison for a 2005 assault on his estranged wife and her family in Philadelphia.

He had beaten and choked her, punched her mother in the face and hit her father in the head with a glass bowl, court records show.

Russia Sends Dozens Of Tanks Into Ukraine

NATO has criticised Russian "aggression" after a column of 32 Russian tanks entered Ukraine.

The convoy of 32 tanks, 16 howitzer cannons and 30 trucks of troops and equipment crossed the border into the rebel-controlled Luhansk region.

Ukraine's military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said in a televised briefing: "The deployment continues of military equipment and Russian mercenaries to the front lines."

Ukraine's president Petro Poroshenko described the action as a "significant" violation of the truce signed on 5 September at Minsk. That deal was meant to stall the conflict in the east, which has claimed more than 4,000 lives.

"The President noted a significant deviation from the implementation of the Minsk (ceasefire) protocol, which is leading to further escalation of the conflict" a statement on the presidential website said.

Video: Has Russia Invaded Ukraine?

A NATO military officer said the alliance was looking into the reports, confirming it had seen an increase in Russian troops and equipment being moved along the Russia-Ukraine border.

"If this crossing into Ukraine is confirmed it would be further evidence of Russia's aggression and direct involvement in destabilising Ukraine," the officer said on condition of anonymity.

The news sparked panic in Russia's currency market, with the euro reaching the 60 ruble mark for the first time in a year when it has lost more than a third of its value against the US dollar.

Video: Donetsk Separatist Leader Sworn In

Last Sunday, the pro-Russian side held a controversial election, which led to separatist leader Alexander Zakharchenko, 38, being sworn in as head of the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic.

On Thursday tensions were further heightened when five Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 16 injured in fighting.

However, Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov said that Russia was committed to the Minsk ceasefire agreement in eastern Ukraine and wanted to build on peace talks.

'Cannibal' Death Victim Named By Police

A woman murdered in a South Wales village - in what unconfirmed reports described as a cannibalistic attack - has been named by police.

Sources say 22-year-old Cerys Marie Yemm was pronounced dead at a bed and breakfast in Argoed, in the Valleys, after being found with substantial facial injuries.

Police fired a 50,000-volt Taser at Matthew Williams in an effort to stop his attack, before the 34-year-old man was restrained and arrested.

He later died in custody.

Gwent Police said they were not looking for any other suspects in the murder investigation.

The attack happened at around 1.30am on Thursday at the Sirhowy Arms Hotel, used by Caerphilly Council to house homeless people while they wait for permanent accommodation.

Neighbour Susan Gibbs told Sky News: "We have had a lot of problems up there.

"Every other week, well every other day sometimes, there are police up there."

Leon Gardiner, deputy mayor of the village, 20 miles north of Cardiff, said: "This has hit the community for six."

He told Sky News: "This is the sort of thing you don't ever expect... We've just got to live with it and hope that the hurt goes away - but it will take a long time."

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has started its own probe into the suspect's death.

A Gwent Police statement confirmed "a Taser was discharged and a 34-year-old local man was arrested".

It added: "Whilst under arrest, the man became unresponsive. Officers and paramedics administered first aid but he was also pronounced dead at the scene."

Video: Has Russia Invaded Ukraine?

When is an invasion not an invasion, but an incursion? When is a foreign-backed insurgency called "hybrid war"? When are military front lines evolving into borders?

Answer: When the Russians do it.

Over the last few days Russia has sent, according to the Ukrainian government but also to Nato, some 32 tanks, 16 track-mounted Howitzers, and 30 trucks laden with men and ammunition into Ukraine.

Along the border another 400 tanks are being off-loaded, NATO sources said, as a "massive show of force" by Russia.

Thousands of Russian troops have been involved in fighting inside Ukraine over the last few months.

UK 'Halves' EU Surcharge, Osborne Says

Britain will pay the European Union £850m of the £1.7bn surcharge it had demanded, Chancellor George Osborne has said.

Speaking after meeting European finance ministers in Brussels, he added that the deal - which means the bill will be paid in two interest-free instalments after next year's election - was "far beyond what anyone expected us to achieve".

"Instead of footing the bill we have halved the bill, we have delayed the bill, we will pay no interest on the bill and if there are any mistakes in the bill we will get our money back," he said.

Prime Minister David Cameron said: "I said we wouldn't pay £1.7bn on December 1. We've now halved the bill and will pay nothing until next July. We're delivering for Britain."

However, Sky's Europe Correspondent Robert Nisbet says it appears the EU will still get the full £1.7bn as a result of what he said some would call "clever accounting".

Video: Migrant Movements 'Not Unqualified'

Nisbet explained: "Next year there will be two instalments that will equal £850m that will be paid to Brussels by the UK and it will get its rebate in full. So far, so good.

"But what will happen in 2016 is that an extra rebate based on increased VAT receipts will be used to settle the rest of the bill.

"That allows the EU to claim it's getting its money, the UK to claim it's negotiated a great deal for Britain and for opposition parties to cry foul."

A Number 10 source insisted there was "no guarantee the rebate would have applied to this" before the deal was struck, and added: "Our view is that this is a very good deal."

Video: 'Major Problem' Over EU Bill Demand

However, Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan suggested the devil was in the detail, saying: "The EU sticks us with a bill. Ministers double it, apply the rebate, return to the original figure and claim victory. We're meant to cheer?

"Britain is worse off in absolute terms, but a straw man has been knocked down. A prelude to how the pro-EU side will fight the referendum."

UKIP leader Nigel Farage wrote on Twitter: "Osborne trying to spin his way out of disaster. UK still paying full £1.7 billion, his credibility is about to nose dive."

Mr Osborne said that EU rules would now be changed forever "so this never happens again", claiming he had got his EU counterparts to agree to changing the system for calculating adjustments to member states contributions.

Video: How Is The UK Seen In Europe?

The PM earlier warned there would be a "major problem" if Brussels insisted on Britain paying the bill in full.

Mr Cameron went on the offensive after a meeting with other European leaders in Finland, saying Britain would not pay "anything like" the full amount ahead of a looming 1 December deadline.

The demand was made by Brussels after a recalculation of Britain's gross national income in relation to other EU states.

'Fake Rape' Case Investigated After Suicide

The Director of Public Prosecutions is personally investigating the case of a woman who killed herself after being prosecuted for making an allegedly false rape claim.

Eleanor de Freitas, 23, killed herself in April - three days before she was due to stand trial at Southwark Crown Court accused of making up an allegation of rape against a man.

The CPS decided to prosecute her after the man reportedly spent £200,000 on a private prosecution.

The A-grade student, who had bipolar disorder, left her family a note blaming her fear of giving evidence as a motive for her suicide.

Lawyers for her family had called on the coroner to postpone an inquest into her death so that an inquiry can be carried out into whether the CPS decision to prosecute Miss de Freitas contributed to her death.

The coroner decided to adjourn the inquest on Friday so the CPS could look into their contact with Miss de Freitas.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Alison Saunders, said she was "very saddened" by the death in a case she described as "one of the most difficult I have seen".

She added: "I have asked the team which dealt with this case for a full explanation which addresses all of the de Freitas family's concerns.

"I appreciate the family's unease which is why I am looking at this personally in order to satisfy myself of the detail surrounding all the stages of the case.

"Prosecuting cases of perverting the course of justice in connection with an alleged false rape allegation is rare, extremely difficult and always complex and sensitive."

She offered to meet Miss de Freitas' family "to discuss the case and the law surrounding it".

Miss de Freitas' father, David, said he welcomed the DPP's decision to take personal responsibility for the case.

"It does slightly fall into the category of too little, to late - but I welcome it," he said.

"I just hope that something of substance can come from it."

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the alleged rapist was arrested by police soon after the complaint was made in January 2013 but, due to lack of evidence, he was released and the case was closed.

Funeral For 'All Round Legend' Jack Bruce

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 06 November 2014 | 00.27

Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker have said goodbye to their former Cream bandmate Jack Bruce at a funeral full of music.

The stars were among mourners, who also included Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera and Procol Harum's Gary Brooker, who paid tribute to Bruce who died from liver disease 11 days ago.

The service for the Scottish-born bass player and singer was held at Golders Green Crematorium in north London.

Bruce, 71, was most famous for his role in the 1960s supergroup Cream, along with Baker and Clapton, who created enduring tracks such as White Room, Sunshine Of Your Love, I Feel Free and Badge.

The trio reformed for a series of shows in 2005, which included dates at the Royal Albert Hall.

The guests sang Morning Has Broken, the Beatles hit Strawberry Fields Forever and Bruce's track Theme For An Imaginary Western to honour the man who was described in the order of service as a "beloved husband, father, granddad and all round legend".

His friend and Cream lyricist Pete Brown shared reminiscences during the funeral, which also included contributions from Bruce's son Malcolm, daughters Natasha and Kyla, a poem written by another son Corin and a tribute from his wife Margrit.

One of the late musician's bass guitars was displayed prominently, flanked by floral displays shaped like the bass clef motif, which was also pictured on the front of the order of service.

British Tourists Die In Cyprus Beach Tragedy

Two British tourists have died after one tried to save the other while swimming in the sea off Cyprus.

The man, named as 61-year-old Harry Bernard, managed to drag the woman, identified in reports as 66-year-old Christine Sugarhood, from the water and attempted to revive her with CPR before collapsing himself.

Mrs Sugarhood, from Haywards Heath in West Sussex, had got into trouble while saving her husband in seas off Pathos, according to police.

While the husband survived, Mrs Sugarhood and Londoner Mr Bernard were rushed to medical clinics before being pronounced dead.

A spokesman for the police in Paphos said both had died "because of a heart attack".

He said: "A man from England was swimming yesterday and his wife tried to save him because he had a problem in the sea. The wife saved her husband but got into a problem in the water.

"A third person tried to save the woman. He got her out of the water but they both died, because of a heart attack."

Post-mortem examinations are due to be carried out.

The Bernards and Sugarhoods were both staying at the four-star Athena Beach Hotel.

The hotel's duty manager, who asked not to be named, said: "Mr Sugarhood is okay. He is devastated but he has a lot of friends here, so he is not alone.

"The same as Ms Harris, Mr Bernard's wife - her family have just arrived."

The duty manager added that Mr and Mrs Sugarhood were in Paphos with friends to play bowls.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: "We can confirm the deaths of two British nationals on 4 November in Cyprus. We are providing consular assistance at this difficult time."

The Cyprus Mail newspaper reported that there were no lifeguards on the beach at the time because they finish working at the end of October.

Paphos is a popular tourist destination notorious for its strong currents. The tragedy happened in the Yeroskipou area.

EU Migrants Pay In More Than They Take - Study

EU migrants contribute more to the UK in taxes than they receive in benefits and services, according to new research.

But the study showed those arriving from outside Europe over a 17-year period took more from the public purse than they put back in.

The findings come as David Cameron moves to tighten the UK's immigration controls by limited EU migration in the face of the growing popularity of UKIP.

The Prime Minister is aware of the need to calm Tory jitters ahead of this month's crunch by-election in Rochester and Strood, where the party is desperate to prevent a second seat falling to UKIP.

The University College London (UCL) report revealed European immigrants made a positive financial contribution of £4.4bn to the UK between 1995 and 2011.

Video: Immigration: Study Out Of Date

However, immigrants from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) made a negative contribution of £118bn.

Over the same period, UK-born workers made a negative contribution of £591bn.

The figures improved for more recent arrivals with EU migrants between 2001-11 making a positive contribution of £20bn, and those from outside Europe £5bn.

Professor Christian Dustmann, director of UCL's Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration (Cream) and co-author of the study, said: "A key concern in the public debate on migration is whether immigrants contribute their fair share to the tax and welfare systems.

"Our new analysis draws a positive picture of the overall fiscal contribution made by recent immigrant cohorts, particularly of immigrants arriving from the EU."

He added: "European immigrants, particularly, both from the new accession countries and the rest of the European Union, make the most substantial contributions.

"This is mainly down to their higher average labour market participation compared with natives and their lower receipt of welfare benefits."

Immigration Minister James Brokenshire told Sky News the focus of the report was too narrow and not up-to-date.

Video: Report: Migrants Boost UK Economy

He said: "In respect of the time period that it talks to, it ends in 2011 whereas we have seen the pressure from EU migration - net migration, those who are coming versus those who are going out - over the course of the last 18 months it has more than doubled during that period.

"It also does not take into account pressure on schools, roads, housing services, those things that really matter to people in their communities."

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said the report showed the balance on immigration was wrong and there needed to be proper border controls but that Britain must remain an "open economy".

He told ITV's Lorraine programme: "If we were simply to turn our back on the world, which is what UKIP and the Conservative Party and others want, as a country we would be poorer."

UKIP Migration spokesman MEP Steven Woolfe, said: "What this study doesn't do is to show what wealth our own people could have generated if they weren't subjected to wage-reducing, employment-displacing mass immigration from the EU. Nor does it truly take into account the opportunity costs to the UK of substituting large sections of Britain's workforce with migrant labour."

Responding to the report, chairman of the MigrationWatch UK think tank Sir Andrew Green said: "This report confirms that immigration as a whole has cost up to £150bn in the last 17 years.

"As for recent European migrants, even on their own figures - which we dispute - their contribution to the exchequer amounts to less than £1 a week per head of our population."

Juncker: 'I Don't Have A Problem' With Cameron

European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker has launched a fresh attack on David Cameron as the two continue to clash over the EU's £1.7bn demand.

Mr Juncker has said he doesn't "have a problem" with Mr Cameron but went on to accuse the Prime Minister of "having a problem" with other European leaders.

It comes after he said Mr Cameron and his Italian counterpart had mislead their citizens over budget talks with Brussels

Mr Juncker claimed what the Prime Minister said publicly about the EU demand for £1.7bn contradicted what was said to other leaders behind closed doors at last month's summit.

Mr Cameron has refused to pay the bill, making clear he believed the call for extra cash and ensuing row undermined support for British membership of the EU.

Video: Oct 27: EU Demand 'Not Acceptable'

The increase would add almost a fifth to the UK's annual contribution of £8.6bn.

Brussels responded by warning the UK would face "late payment fines" if it failed to hand over the cash - which reflects changes in the relative national income of different EU states - by the 1 December deadline.

However, on Wednesday, EU officials told Reuters EU finance ministers would be willing to allow Britain to pay the bill in interest-free instalments.

Referring to the October meeting, Mr Juncker told a European Parliament hearing: "I don't like the way that certain prime ministers behaved after the summit.

"I took notes and when I compared what they had said inside the room with what they said outside, they did not tally up."

In another news conference on Wednesday he compounded matters saying: "I don't have a problem with Mr Cameron, Mr Cameron has a problem with the other prime ministers,"

His comments are set to further sour relations with Mr Cameron, who bitterly opposed Mr Juncker's appointment as commission boss.

France is the biggest gainer from the recalculation of national contributions to EU budgets, and is due to receive one billion euro (£800m), while EU partners including the Netherlands, Italy, and even bailed-out Greece and Ireland face surcharges.

Video: EU Demand: Should UK Pay More?

Mr Juncker also took a sideswipe at the Italian leader Matteo Renzi, who vowed at the summit to make public the cost of European Union "palaces" in a row over Italy's budget projections, earning a sharp rebuke from then-Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso.

"I said to Matteo Renzi that I was not the leader of some gang of bureaucrats," Mr Juncker said.

"I am the president of the European Commission, a political institution, and I want prime ministers to respect these institutions."

He also suggested Rome was lucky to scrape through an initial review by Brussels of its 2015 budget despite running an excessive deficit.

He said: "If Barroso only listened to bureaucrats, Italy's budget would have been treated differently."

Mr Renzi took to Twitter to hit back at Mr Juncker, demanding respect from Brussels for his country.

He said: "I'm not going to go to Brussels to have what needs to be done explained to me, and I told Barroso and Juncker that."

Ukraine: Shelling Kills Teens On School Field

Two teenagers have been killed by shelling while playing football on a school field in the rebel-held city of Donetsk in Ukraine.

Witnesses say at least four more people were wounded.

Local reports suggest the incident happened about 2-3km (1-1.5 miles) from Donetsk airport, where separatists have been fighting to seize control from government forces.

Clashes have continued despite a ceasefire declared on 5 September.

A Donetsk city council statement said: "As a result of a missile strike from the conflict zone two teenagers were killed and a further three were injured on a school sports field."

The deaths came as Vladimir Putin expressed concern that the ceasefire had failed to end a civil war that has killed more than 4,000 people - mainly civilians - since February.

"Despite the Minsk agreements, firing on peaceful cities continues and civilians are still dying," the Russian President is quoted as saying by the RIA news agency.

The Ukrainian leadership and pro-Russian separatists blame each other for truce violations.

Video: Donetsk Separatist Leader Sworn In

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel believes the West should consider adding Ukraine's rebel leaders to sanction lists after they held disputed elections on Sunday.

"We should take another look at possibly listing certain people who are now in charge in eastern Ukraine after these illegitimate elections," she said

Mrs Merkel stressed there were no immediate plans to reverse EU sanctions against Russia.

"We would like to lift the sanctions but that is not the situation as I see it," she said.

Savile Rape Accused 'Has Previous Conviction'

A former DJ accused of raping a woman with Jimmy Savile has a previous conviction for unlawful sexual intercourse with an underage girl, a court has heard.

Ray Teret, 73, faces historical sexual allegations from 17 women who claim he sexually abused them between the 1960s and 1990s.

One alleged victim says she was raped aged 15 by Teret almost immediately after she was raped by Savile in a flat when the defendant had driven her from a disco.

Teret denies 18 rapes, two other serious sexual assaults, one attempted rape, 11 indecent assaults and two counts of indecency with a child.

Before he gave evidence at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, the jury was told he was convicted in March 1999 of having unlawful intercourse with a girl under 16.

The former Radio Caroline DJ, of Altrincham, Greater Manchester, had pleaded not guilty at Manchester Crown Court to the offence committed in February 1998.

In court on Wednesday, his barrister, Nicholas Johnson, said the woman who complained she had been raped by Teret and Savile said she had met Teret earlier on a Friday night in the 1960s at the Rialto club in Higher Broughton, Salford.

Teret said that was not possible as he did not work Fridays.

The alleged victim said Teret chatted her up on the dancefloor stage before he drove her in a green bubble car to a nearby property where Savile was.

Teret said club rules prohibited anyone from sitting on stage and would lead to ejection. He said he had never driven a green bubble car.

Mr Johnson asked him: "Did you ever take anyone back to a premises where Jimmy Savile was and both have sex with them?"

Teret replied: "I have never had sex with anyone in the same room and certainly not with Mr Savile."

The complainant told the jury that her grandmother later went down to the Rialto to confront Teret about what the complainant said had happened. Teret denied that had taken place.

He said: "No-one has ever approached me about anything like that at any time in my life."

Earlier in court, Teret said how he first met Savile in the late 1950s when the then Mecca dancehall manager presented him with £5 for winning a singing contest at The Plaza ballroom in Oxford Street, Manchester.

He was later given a job there as a cleaner, then a waiter at The Ritz ballroom in Manchester city centre before he was taught how to be a disc jockey at what became Jimmy Savile's Disc Club.

Mr Johnson asked him if there were rules at the club about fraternising with customers.

He replied: "When I first came in my job was to walk around and say good evening to everyone but we could not fraternise as in boyfriend/girlfriend ways."

Two other men are on trial with Teret. Alan Ledger, 62, from Altrincham, denies a serious sexual assault, an indecent assault and one count of indecency with a child.

A third defendant, William Harper, 65, of Stretford, denies one count of attempted rape. The trial continues.

Jailed Pastor's Daughter Held In China

By Sky News Beijing Team

The daughter of a jailed Chinese Christian pastor has been detained by authorities in what her husband claims is an attempt to silence her ahead of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

Zhang Shanshan is the daughter of Pastor Zhang Shaojie, the leader of Nanle County Church in China's Henan Province, who was arrested in November last year along with 23 of his parishioners.

Pastor Zhang was sentenced to 12 years in jail for "gathering crowds to disturb public order" and "fraud", after a secret detention spanning seven months.

His case has pitted a Christian community against the local government in a dispute over freedom to worship and the right to own land.

Sky News has learned that Ms Zhang was taken away by unknown men at around 11am on Wednesday while she was grocery shopping in her hometown.

Her husband, Hah CheeChuan, a Malaysian national, called her repeatedly when she failed to return home but there was no answer.

Ms Zhang eventually called back, and managed to shout the name of the hotel in which she was being held.

Minutes later Mr Hah received a text message from his wife saying: "Nanle Hotel, help me!"

A series of text messages between husband and wife then revealed that two other women were also being held in the same hotel.

One of them was Ms Zhang's aunt and the other was church leader Fan Ruizhen. It is believed the local government wanted to demolish their church before Ms Fan could be released.

Ms Zhang's husband told Sky News that he believed his wife was detained because the local government feared she would try to publicise her father's "unjust" arrest while world leaders were in China for the APEC summit.

He said: "They tried to cover up the ugly things in the country, and they don't want the outside world to know what is going on in China.

"So I think that's why they've arrested them, and put them somewhere else."

US President Barack Obama, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Russian President Vladimir Putin are among world leaders scheduled to attend the meeting.

The US government is aware of Pastor Zhang's case.

In July, US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said: "I want to express deep concern by the United States by reports that Zhang Shaojie was convicted 4 July and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in retaliation for his peaceful advocacy on behalf of his church community.

"We call on Chinese authorities to release Pastor Zhang and we urge China to cease harassment of his family members and congregants."

Video: China's Christian Challenge

The hostility and danger faced by some Chinese Christians was witnessed by Sky News in December last year.

A Sky News crew was attacked by a group of local people believed to have been hired by the government as they investigated Pastor Zhang's arrest. Sky News was removed by force from the town and told not to return.

The team secured a secret meeting with Pastor Zhang's other daughter Zhang Huixin, who was in hiding with her baby daughter. She described the violent arrest of her father.

Earlier this year Zhang Huixin - also known as Yunyun - and her husband escaped from China with their baby daughter, and sought shelter in the US state of Texas.

Despite the constitutional rights to religious freedom, China's Christians are among a number of religious groups persecuted by the authorities.

Car Rams Pedestrians As Jerusalem Clashes Erupt

A driver has rammed his car into a crowd of pedestrians in East Jerusalem before getting out and attacking people with a metal bar - killing one and injuring 13.

The man was shot dead at the scene by police, who described the incident as a "hit-and-run terror attack".

"A commercial vehicle hit and ran over pedestrians at a light rail station," police spokeswoman Luba Samri said.

She indicated that the incident took place on the border between west and annexed East Jerusalem.

Emergency services spokesman Zaki Heller said the car had driven down the light rail tracks then ploughed into people waiting on the platform.

Police named the attacker as 38-year-old Palestinian Ibrahim al-Akri, who they said had recently been released from prison after serving time for security offences.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility by any Palestinian organisation but Hamas, the group which runs Gaza, praised the attack and called for more violence.

Hamas official Fawzi Barhoum said: "We praise this heroic operation."

"We call for more such ... operations."

A similar attack took place in the same area on October 23.

It came as Israeli police clashed with Palestinian protesters at the city's Al-Aqsa Mosque compound after hardline Jewish nationalists announced plans to visit the site despite weeks of soaring tensions.

Jordan announced it was recalling its ambassador to Israel in protest at the Jewish state's "violations" in Jerusalem and its holy sites.

Jordan's state news agency said the decision was taken "in protest at the increasing and unprecedented Israeli escalation in the Noble Sanctuary, and the repeated Israeli violations of Jerusalem".

East London Teen Charged With Terror Offences

A teenager from east London has been charged with preparing to commit acts of terrorism.

Kazi Jawad Islam, 18, was arrested in August and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

No further details have been released.

The charge comes days after a worldwide travel warning was issued by the Foreign Office, amid fears that Britons flying abroad could be targeted in terrorist attacks.

The Government updated its travel advice for 225 countries and territories to reflect a "generalised threat" that extremists could seek revenge for Britain's involvement in airstrikes against Islamic State.

The group posted a series of videos online showing the separate murders of US journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff and two British aid workers, David Haines and Alan Henning.

In August, Home Secretary Theresa May announced the UK's terror threat level was to be raised to "severe", which means acts of terrorism are "highly likely".

At present, the Foreign Office is advising against all travel to five provinces in Iraq – including Anbar and Kirkuk. It has urged Britons to travel to other regions in the country only if it is absolutely necessary.

The FCO is also compelling British nationals to avoid Syria in its entirety, while urging anyone currently there to "leave now by any practical means".

British Troops Going Back To Iraq For IS Fight

Britain is sending troops back to Iraq to help local forces in the battle against Islamic State militants, the Defence Secretary has confirmed.

Michael Fallon said the UK was "stepping up" its military presence in the country, with its forces offering further training to Iraqi soldiers and Kurdish Peshmerga fighters.

It comes after a "small specialist" team was sent to instruct Peshmerga in the northern city of Irbil last month.

Mr Fallon, who visited British army trainers teaching Peshmerga fighters how to use heavy machine guns given by Britain, insisted that no combat troops will be deployed to Iraq.

He said the latest move would see UK troops teaching Kurds infantry skills such as sharp-shooting and first aid, while more equipment will be provided.

The UK will also send advisory personnel to Iraqi headquarters.

There have been growing calls to provide more assistance to new Iraqi prime minister Haider al Abadi as his country's forces struggle to reclaim territory from IS, also known as ISIS or ISIL, in the north and west.

Mr Fallon held talks in Baghdad with the PM and Iraqi security advisers, before flying north to Irbil to met the President of the Kurdistan regional government Masoud Barzani and prime minister Nechirvan Barzani.

"The need is now," he said.

Video: How Is Islamic State Funded?

"It's a very immediate challenge from ISIL. As they start to push ISIL back out of the villages and towns that ISIL have gone into they are going to need this kind of assistance with roadside bombs, particularly to counter the terror tactics that Isil have been using.

"So, we are looking very urgently now how we can get more training help to them in the next few weeks."

Asked about concerns of mission creep, he said: "This is a very limited mission.

"The Prime Minister's made it very, very clear we are not going to recommit combat troops to Iraq. We've been there, we've done that.

"What we are going to do is to help the new government of Iraq and its own army take the fight to Isil through the aircraft we have deployed in the sky, through intelligence gathering, and through specialist training."

British troops took part in the 2003 invasion of Iraq that overthrew Saddam Hussein, and later took responsibility for Basra and the south of the country.
