A South African woman who allegedly kidnapped a baby from a hospital and raised her until she was 17 has been released on bail.
The 50-year-old, who lives in Cape Town, was arrested last week after the biological parents of the girl, who will be 18 next month, figured out her identity.
She faces charges of kidnapping and pretending to be the child's mother.
The woman has been ordered to stay away from the girl and not to contact her husband, who is a witness in the trial, the South African Press Association reported.
The girl, who police say is currently in the care of social services, was reunited with her biological parents, Morne and Celeste Nurse, last week.
Unbeknown to her, the girl had befriended her younger biological sister after the two went to the same high school.
Nurses shocked by their resemblance contacted police, who carried out DNA tests that proved she was the baby taken from Groote Schuur hospital in 1997.
Morne Nurse, the girl's biological father, said: "My daughter is back and that's it. Look, she is broken and we will fix it."
The parents said they never gave up hope of being reunited with their daughter.
Each year, her siblings blew out candles on a birthday cake for their missing sister.
The girl, who has not been identified because she is a minor, thanked the public for their support earlier this week.
"Under the circumstances, I am doing fine," she said in a statement read by her lawyer, Ann Skelton of the Centre for Child Law.
The media have been asked not to publish the name of the alleged kidnapper, for fear it could reveal the girl's identity.
She was raised by the accused and her husband as an only child, and lived in the same area as her biological family.
Judith Wasserfall, a friend of the accused, said: "She was blessed, she had everything, she never missed out on anything."
The trial resumes on 29 May.
