Pregnant Teen Jayden Parkinson 'Buried Hastily'

The burial of pregnant teenager Jayden Parkinson in a grave by her ex-boyfriend was "fairly hasty" a court has heard.

Ben Blakeley admits dumping the 17-year-old's body in the grave of his dead uncle a week after killing her.

Jayden was last seen with the 22-year-old former binman on December 3 last year in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

The pair had met to talk about her pregnancy.

Prosecutors allege that when she told Blakeley the news the previous day in a telephone call he became angry, denying he was the father.

Blakeley, of Reading, Berkshire, denies murdering Jayden but admits her manslaughter and attempting to pervert the course of justice over the disposal of her body.

But his manslaughter plea has not been accepted by the prosecution, and he has gone on trial along with a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The youth has also pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice, but denies preventing a lawful burial, arguing he did not know he was helping bury Jayden's body.

Forensic archaeologist Dr Karl Harrison carried out the excavation of Alan Kennedy's grave at All Saints' churchyard in Didcot.

He told Oxford Crown Court a "wiggly line of string" had been used to mark out three sides of the grave and was held in place with screws and nails.

Dr Harrison told jurors he removed around 20cm of soil and he could clearly see spade marks, which had been made with "some force".

Jayden was wearing torn black leggings and her legs were bent back behind her body with her ankles pressed against her thighs, Dr Harrison told the court.

He added that after her body had been placed in the grave, the excavated soil was put back on top and the excess was compacted around the sides.

Dr Harrison said: "It was my feeling on excavating the entirety of Miss Parkinson's body she appeared to have been subjected to a fairly hasty disposal."

A post-mortem found Jayden died as a result of pressure to the neck.

The jury also heard from taxi driver Adrian Stovell, who unwittingly helped Blakeley lift a heavy suitcase allegedly containing Jayden's body into his boot.

Mr Stovell had picked him up in the village of Upton at about 2am on December 9.

The taxi driver said Blakeley asked him to pick up a suitcase containing his belongings, telling him he had been kicked out by his girlfriend

Mr Stovell said he drove his taxi along an unlit track until his headlights illuminated a suitcase on the floor.

"It was though someone had been dragging it down along the track and just dropped it," he told the court.

"The suitcase was on its back, flat to the floor. He went off to get the suitcase. He had difficulty getting it along the floor because the wheels were so small."

Mr Stovell added he could see the man was struggling to lift the suitcase so he got out to help.

The trial continues.
