A holidaymaker snorkelling for lobster has died after being pulled from the sea, police said.

A beach-goer found Peter Ivimey, 52, unconscious in the water at Prussia Cove, near Cudden Point, west Cornwall.

The man pulled Mr Ivimey, who was on holiday from London, out of the sea and attempted CPR.

A coastguard team and police arrived at the scene after 4pm on Thursday.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said the emergency services continued to try to resuscitate Mr Ivimey.

He was airlifted to Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and was pronounced dead on arrival.

"His next of kin have been informed in London and police are not treating the death as suspicious at this time," the police spokesman added.

"The coroner has been informed."
