Dartford Crossing Closed By 'Security Incident'

The Dartford crossing has been closed in both directions after a "suspicious item" triggered a security alert.

The QEII bridge and the Dartford tunnel are both shut, with long delays for drivers using the M25 and surrounding roads.

Kent Police said a male pedestrian who was seen "behaving unusually" had been arrested.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said: "The Dartford crossing has been closed in both directions due to a serious incident.

"We are working with Kent Police and the crossing will be reopened once they have been able to resolve the issue."

However, Kent Police warned the crossing would be closed "for some time" and urged drivers to find alternative routes.
